San Telmo

The Cocker

458 Juan de Garay
San Telmo
Buenos Aires, Argentina
TEL: 54-11-4362-8451

Ever since it opened in 2003, this tiny hotel in the historic, hostel-heavy San Telmo neighborhood has been crazily popular. Each of the five rooms in the restored Art Nouveau townhouse is uniquely decorated, from the conversation pit and groovy white modernism of No. 17-04 and the antique French-styled No. 19-02, to the glass-walled bathroom above the bedroom in the Garden Suite. In the early evening, owner Amanda Gary usually can be found sharing a bottle of wine with guests in the kitchen, while the lounge is dominated by a Chappell grand piano from Bond Street, London. The hotel name comes from the owner’s dog, a cocker spaniel named Rocco.

Insider Tip: Guests who stay on Sunday nights can take part in free tango classes at the nearby Tango en el Tasso.

Room to Book: Not only is 12-06 the cheapest room, it is also the highest in the four-story building. Known as the “room in the sky,” it comes with a domed ceiling and private terrace.
