Vieux-Montréal (Old Montreal)

Auberge du Vieux-Port

97 Rue de la Commune Estate
Vieux-Montréal
Montreal, Canada
TEL: 514-876-0081

Set among the 19th-century warehouses that line the riverside Rue de la Commune, this 27-room inn could pull in guests for its address alone. The auberge’s other charms—unobstructed views of the port and Moshe Safdie’s iconic Habitat ‘67 housing units, a lively rooftop terrace, gentle prices, and more historic atmosphere than any other hotel in the city—round out its many charms. Just beware the rooms’ sloping wooden floors, which can make even a teetotaler feel like a drunken sailor.

Insider Tip: Hit the terrace for an afternoon snack. During the summer, there’s no better view in the city.

Room to Book: Don’t bother unless you can reserve quarters that face the port. And be warned: five Standard Queens come only with a standing, plastic shower stall. The upgrade to a Deluxe King for a full bath and a view is worth it.
