Toward the quieter eastern end of Waikiki this family-friendly hotel packs 800-plus rooms into a high-rise across the street from the beach. A recent remodel decked it out in colorful commercial-Hawaiian style: neon-green surfboards in the lobby, canopy beds with bright tropical-flower prints, and oversize tiki torches. Go for a room with a private lanai, and check out the ‘50s-style Tiki’s Grill & Bar with its hand-carved wood masks, giant faux volcano, and amazing second-story view of Waikiki Beach.
Insider Tip: Wake up early to beat the lines (they start at 6:30 a.m.) for a breakfast picnic basket of fruit, yogurt, pastries, and eggs, then dine on the beach.

Rooms on the east side of the 20th floor have unsurpassed views of the sunrise over Diamond Head, and are a little quieter than west-side rooms.
