Alvear Palace Hotel
Recoleta
Buenos Aires, Argentina
TEL: 54-11-4808-2100
Celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2007, the 210-room Alvear Palace in the upscale Recoleta neighborhood defines Buenos Aires’s European-aspiring swish hotel tradition. Afternoon tea in the L’Orangerie restaurant combines the English tea with Argentina’s obsession with delicate sweets; chef Jean Paul Bondoux’s sea-foam carpeted La Bourgogne restaurant gives Argentine ingredients a high-end French edge; and the design throughout is pure Louis XIV. While the Argentine Sutton family, owners of the Alvear, have not jumped on the minimalist design trend, they are adding LCD televisions and shower stalls to the rooms and have just opened a basement spa and fitness center.
Room to Book: Room numbers ending in -03, -04, and -05—on the corner overlooking Avenida Alvear and Ayacucho—often have the best, sunniest views.
Insider Tip:
Unwind with an armagnac in the clubby new Cigar Bar OR Sip the hotel’s signature blend during L’Orangerie’s afternoon tea.Amenities
