Gatlinburg, Tennessee is one of the best spots to rent a cabin if you want to see the Smoky Mountains up close. Positioned on the western border of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, visitors can be out the front door and in the park, headed to one of the lush, forested hiking trails, in less than five minutes. As far as outdoor adventure, it’s all on your doorstep. There are 800 miles of trails through the park, many leading to views of waterfalls and mountain peaks, plus zip-lining, snowboarding and horseback riding. Gatlinburg also has plenty of live music, but if it’s not enough, Dolly Parton’s famous Dollywood is a short drive away.

While in Gatlinburg, it’s almost mandatory to try one of the local barbeque spots, but make sure to swing by a pancake house, too. If southern-style food isn’t your preference, there are also cafés, steakhouses and Italian eateries.

As far as cabin rentals go, Gatlinburg offers a range of options. If you’re headed to the town for a romantic holiday, stay in one of the small, two-person cabins, like the ones available from Honeymoon Hills. The log cabins are tucked away on a private property, but still offer modern comforts including Wi-Fi and spa pools on private decks. They also have delightfully tacky, bright red, heart-shaped Jacuzzi tubs.

For families or even group holidays, Gatlinburg is full of larger cabin rentals and chalets. Aside from the wooden walls that give a true log cabin feel, cabins are dotted with accents that serve as a reminder of the Smoky Mountains location: silhouettes of black bears are a popular motif, and warm, wintery quilts keep guests cozy in front of fireplaces. Hemlock Hills Cabins are popular with visitors. For a small family getaway, the two-bedroom ‘Cabin Fever’ rental is perfect. For something slightly larger, try the three-bedroom ‘Truly Blessed’ cabin. It has a Jacuzzi tub, fireplace, charcoal grill, and multiple TVs, They even let you bring your pet along for vacation.

Though there are ample options to choose from, the challenge is finding the best. Due to the nature of cabins being less centralized than hotels, the best way to make sure you end up in the perfect location is to read reviews related to the particular property and the rental company before booking.
