Chiang Mai

I first travelled to Chiang Mai in July 1968. We went by train and on the return trip had boxes of money with soldier guards to put our feet on between the facing seats. Even then, Chiang Mai was a tourist destination, but only for Thais.
I lived there from 1984 to 1993 and the living was the best I have ever experienced. These days it is a little too hectic for me and everyone seems to have found it.
