The bustling capital of the New South is in a near-constant state of flux. Once a sultry antebellum outpost, then a charred ruin in the wake of General William T. Sherman’s 1864 march to the sea, Atlanta today is a thoroughly modern cityscape of glittering towers (more of which seem to pop up every week), and a center of both world news (CNN is headquartered here) and international business (the airport is the nation’s busiest).
