It’s not unusual to pay more than $1,000 for round-trip airfare to India—and so it’s no surprise an airfare sale for $501 flights to Mumbai is getting a lot of attention.
This major deal from Virgin Atlantic shows affordable flights from cities across the United States (including New York City, Washington, D.C., Boston, Los Angeles, and San Francisco).
At press time, tickets from the West Coast cost between $517 and $521 round-trip; flights originating in Washington, D.C. are available for $501; Boston-based travelers can find $528 round-trip seats.
Travelers departing from the New York metro area can score $511 round-trip seats on trips out of John F. Kennedy International Airport. But if Newark is a more convenient hub, tickets can be purchased from there for $524.
According to the Airfare Spot, affordable flights can be found between October and November, though cheap trips are also available in May.
The Flight Deal, which also reported this sale, noted that travelers departing from Miami can find low-priced tickets to Mumbai, too (we found $508 round-trip seats in early November). And deals can be scored on trips to Delhi from New York City, Boston, and Los Angeles. This route, while still steeply discounted, will be more costly than Mumbai-bound flights.
So what to do upon arrival in Mumbai? Check out the butterfly-filled Sanjay Gandhi National Park (there are about 172 species here, 100 of which are very rare) and check out the recently reopened Taj Art gallery. And one early morning, on that gray edge between night and day, head to the Ferry Wharf to watch fishermen haul in the daily catch.
