Traversing the Serpentine Lake in London's Hyde Park at a stately (and silent) four miles per hour, the Solar Shuttle is evidence of the increasing viability of alternative energy sources, integrating technology and design from the ground up. This is not simply a boat with solar power, but an entirely new sort of vehicle, with the electricity-producing panels forming an elegant canopy beneath which up to 42 passengers can ride—even on cloudy days.
