The Guthrie's gestures are highly dramatic—gravity-defying, cantilevered lobby; the glowing amber glass box attached to the high floors of the metallic building—yet they also echo the down-to-earth grandeur of industrial shapes and masses: the nearby mills and factories of riverside Minneapolis. Inside, three very different performance spaces serve a range of production sizes and audiences, carrying the historic regional theater's legacy into the city's vital present.
"The theater's color and shape bring excitement to the surrounding industrial neighborhood." —Rob Forbes
