    As a Michigan resident, let me add that the Leelanau Peninsula is a beautiful place to visit and explore -- surrounded on three sides by Lake Michigan, and close to Traverse City, a great spot for summer or winter recreation.
    I'd like to suggest one other possibility (quite far from Lake Michigan). On a visit to Tucson last winter, I was surprised to find that there is a cluster of small wineries about an hour south of the city. Spent a pleasant afternoon visiting southern Arizona wineries.
