Kanela - True Hawaii, Indeed!
Posted Aug. 28, 2009
Comment on: (Article) True Hawaii
Mr. Trebay, you seemed to have Huli-Hulied a few aspects of the Hawaii that I preciously
hold dear in MY mind. After residing in the Sandwich Islands for a quarter of my life it was a pleasure to hear an
east coast version from a literary conch shell. It sounded of the kind of manna
that reawakens some of the many bittersweet moments I have about the islands.
I suspect somewhere in the recesses of your mind you might just go back
for vacation one day, have a craving lapse as I did, and forget to leave the tropics for
a quarter of a century. Your parents loved the islands and deep inside you always
wondered, (its a good thing to wander). From the sound of this article, now you know why.
You could just continue to play it safe, sniff and wince at the odoriferous nature of an East
coast big city. Mark Twain used to say, "A dog needs to have a few fleas on it--
keep its mind off a being a dog."
Enjoyed your article Mr. Trebay, and please accept my apology for the cliche--Thanks for
the memories.
