Comment on: (Article) World's Strangest Ice Cream
My old hometown churned out some interesting ice cream flavors. The most unusual by far was the Cream of Mushroom ice cream that always showed up at the annual Mushroom Festival. It had a light, sweet taste that was reminiscent of cream-of-mushroom soup. A couple of local farms tried to make it, but the best came from this little Mexican ice cream shop downtown. They also came up with lots of fruit- and nut-based flavors using tropical fruits such as tamarind and mango, toasted coconut, and a few indigenous fruits that don't even have English names. A favorite topping for the locals was chili powder. Yes, chili powder! I tried it and found it, not horrible, but addictive. It gave an already tangy mango ice an added zing.
