seandunn - A problem with getting a replacement US passport
Posted Jun. 04, 2009
Comment on: (Article) World's Worst Travel Disasters
I was reading your interesting article about Travel Disasters.
I saw an omission that's an interesting one. Getting a replacement US Passport is more than having a copy of the ID pages of the old one. It requires proof that the old one is lost. For that, you need a police report. In SOME countries (for example, Iran, where my boss is from), this can be VERY hard to obtain. My boss was stuck in Iran for SIX WEEKS while he explored connections through the family's network to try and find someone senior enough to order the local police to issue a report that can be used to get a replacement.
It was a big surprise to all of us when his 1-week trip to see the family became an extended absence !!
Thanks for the article itself -- excellent stuff in there.
