T+L Twitter Chat Recap: “Summer Travel” from Industry Experts
Our most recent T+L Twitter Chat covered tips on quick weekend getaways, and the best restaurants, things to do, beaches, or destinations to visit in the summer.
For summer getaways, Havaianas sandals recommended their homeland of Brazil, while Trina Turk spoke highly of a recent trip to Berlin and Capri that she took with her husband, interior designer and personality Jonathan Adler, and fashion writer and commentator Simon Doonan. Kiehl’s Since 1851 President, Chris Salgardo, was live tweeting from LifeRide, a motorcycle ride from Seattle to Los Angeles to benefit amFAR, while Gary Arndt of Everywhere Trip has been busy so far this summer, having already traveled to the Bahamas, USVI, BVI, Anguilla, St. Martin, Saba, St. Eustatius, St. Kitts and Nevis!
For favorite summer foods, Orbitz recommended haunts such as Coolinary New Orleans for NOLA’s restaurant month. The Go Girl Travel Network loves New England lobster while family travel blogger Amy Bizzarri, has brought haute dining to camping this summer—cooking filet mignon over a campfire. Sandy Schadler, Vice President of Travelink, American Express Travel, took a similar foodie route this summer and cooked s'mores on the beach in San Diego, California. T+L Special Projects Editor, Clara Sedlak spoke highly of ceviche she had at the new Jumeriah Hotel in Mallorca recently.
When it comes to what to bring in your summer weekend beach bag, Trina Turk says, “pack light but never forget a wide brim hat, sunblock, an armload of bangles and sunnies!” Sounds like good advice to us. L’Atitude brings kaftans for a versatile summer outfit you can wear from the beach to dinner, while Arndt has found that his Kindle is a must-have on the beach.
To finish off the chat, we thought our own Clara Sedlak had three words that described summer best: “Chilled white wine.”
