Just back from vacation to Rosewood Jumby Bay in Antigua, Jacqueline Gifford, T+L’s Senior Editor, Travel & Beauty, shares her makeup, skin, and hair musts.
Fresh Soy Face Cleanser: I am so addicted to this gentle cleanser, that I broke my carry-on only rule and actually checked luggage just so I could bring it along. (The cleanser only comes in a 5.1 fl. oz. size.) Soy proteins help maintain elasticity, and the cucumber extract instantly soothes sunburnt skin. $38.
Bumble and Bumble Surf Travel Set: This kit includes a hydrating shampoo and conditioner, as well as the cult-favorite Surf Spray. The spray—plus the Caribbean air—gave my long hair that perfectly tousled, off-the-beach look. After washing, I’d blow dry my hair about half way; then spray all over, crimp, and flip for textured, piecey waves. $28.
Dr. Perricone No Blush Blush and No Mascara Mascara: Dr. Perricone’s No Makeup line is a new launch for summer—and I’m hooked. The liquid blush comes in a travel-friendly .3 fl. oz. bottle, and also contains DMAE—an anti-aging nutrient. Dab three dots on the apple of each cheek and swirl with a fingertip for a healthy glow. As for the mascara, I had zero clumping. $35 and $30.
Bobbi Brown Sand Set: No matter your eye color, you can’t go wrong with this palette of eight earth-toned shadows, both matte and sparkly. I’d apply the deep gold for dinner, and as I started to tan over the course of the trip, the lighter shades would stand out beautifully. $65.
YSL Eyeliner Baby Doll in Light Golden Brown: I live for this liquid liner, which glides on with the finest brush. For a fun look, I’d do a slight cat-eye then top off with Bobbi Brown's deep gold shadow. $34.
Clinique Moisture Surge Face Spray Thirsty Skin Relief: I’d spritz this aloe-based spray every hour on the hour for a refreshing (and soothing) pick me up. $22.
Laura Mercier Stickgloss in Pomegranate: Gloss on the beach can be a disaster: the wind blows hair into your face, and you've sooner got more gloss on your locks than on your lips. This sheer lipstick glides on with the ease of a gloss, but stays put like a lipstick. I'm also obsessed with the shade, which has just the right amount of red. $23; lauramercier.com.
Egyptian Magic All-Purpose Cream: My mom turned me on to this gem of cream, which is thicker than regular lotion (it's almost like a salve). The primary ingredients? Olive oil, beeswax, and honey. I loved slathering it on my legs after a day in the sun for an understated glow—it made wearing short dresses a touch more sassy. $26; egyptianmagic.com.
