To help you leverage the digital boom on your next trip and cash in on the latest social currency, we tapped four platform experts for their outreach strategies and insider tips.
This week, Renee Blodgett, founder of We Blog The World, tells us how to bring travel writing into the 21st century and reach mobile, multi-tasking readers all over the globe.
How To Become A Travel Blogger
“It’s about creating a Purple Cow effect,” says Blodgett. Whether you’re an expert on Southeast Asia, or committed to navigating the globe by kayak, it’s smart to identify your unique travel passion. That way, you’ll stand out from the crowd.
Use your blog and its social handles (no more than two, to start) as a way to engage and update your community. If you become a mindless megahorn for page updates or summoning new subscribers, Blodgett says, “You won’t come across as authentic.”
“Remember that travelers are mobile.” Your globe-trotting followers will likely be reading posts while on-the-go, so make your site smartphone-savvy and put the most important – or newest – posts front and center.
