Moynat Paris Comes To NYC
Francophiles and luxury aficionados take note. The Parisian maker of the finely crafted handbags, Moynat, has a pop up shop at the Dover Street Market in NYC. Founder, Pauline Moynat, is said to be the only woman trunk-maker in history and began in the Paris theater district as a supplier to the Comedie Franciase in 1849. She created a handbag for Rejane, an actress of the Belle Époque, which has been reinvented by the current artistic director, Ramesh Nair in colors like robin’s egg blue and canary yellow.

Understated refined taste is the fashion zeitgeist and Moynat ticks all the boxes with simplicity, excellent materials and absence of decoration except for a silver clasp.

Specially made for the Big Apple is a whimsical tote bag with hand painted image. Also on display is a bike with a picnic trunk attached with all the accouterments for a chic picnic.
It’s worth a trip even if you are not in the buying mood because there are 3 places in the world to see this historic brands goods; Rue Saint Honore in Paris and in Mayfair in London which opened a month ago. The trunk show runs until June 24th.
Le Trunk Show at Dover Street Market, 160 Lexington Avenue, New York, NY. Monday to Saturday, noon to 6.
