When was the last time you used a real camera, loaded with real film? Sure you’ve got the Hipstamatic app on your iPhone to take super dreamy retro snapshots that look like they came straight from the '70s—but I’ve got a reason for you to put your phone down and go analogue. (Skeptical? Keep reading: It involves a free trip to Europe.)
To promote their 10 Prophecies of the Analogue Future, Lomography is hosting a photography contest with a prize of a round trip flight to Vienna, three nights in a hotel, as well as a visit to the Lomo HQ.
There’s one caveat: In order to get people to leave the digital grind behind, Lomography is only accepting photographs shot with film. No pixels allowed! While I’m a huge fan of the convenience and instant gratification of digital photography (and saving money on film/developing costs), I think we could all use a little time away from our computers, iPads, and smartphones.
Agree? Here are the rules:
- Pick up one of Lomography’s Future is Analogue posters or stickers or pick them up at a Lomo Gallery Store, or download them here.
- Stick your poster somewhere. Be creative. (Note: Try not to vandalize anything, guys.)
- Take a shot of your poster/sticker with film, scan it, and upload it here by April 15.
Any film/camera type is acceptable, however the photo may not be digitally enhanced or manipulated. You can submit up to ten photographs.
A panel from Lomography’s Vienna HQ will judge the entries based on the quality and novelty of the image. There will be three winners, one from each of the following 3 regions: North and South America, Europe and Africa, Asia and the Rest of the World.
As of now, there are fewer than 450 submissions, so your chances of winning are pretty high. Dig your film camera out of storage and get shooting!
