U Spa Barrière Shiseido at the Hôtel Fouquet’s Barrière

In a world-class city like Paris, great hotels—and great hotel spas—are everywhere you turn. The hardest part is choosing which to visit first—a task that just got more challenging with the addition of U Spa Barrière Shiseido at the Hôtel Fouquet’s Barrière, located on the posh avenue George V, in the 2nd arrondissement.

As the only Shiseido-branded spa in Paris, U Spa Barrière offers 140 years of experience in Japanese healing (the brand was founded in 1872 in Ginza, Tokyo, as a Western-style pharmacy)—not to mention products with serious street cred (including the popular anti-aging Future Solution LX line).

Located one floor below ground level, the spa can be accessed via its own elevator bank—eliminating any awkward mingling with those hotel guests not dressed in bathrobes. Once inside the 750-square-meter space, you’ll find eight treatment rooms, a fitness center, a hammam and a sauna, plus one of the city’s largest indoor swimming pools. Also worth noting: U Spa Barrière offers day passes for non-hotel guests who book a one-hour treatment (expect a 50 Euro surcharge).

Treatments range from purifying facials to body sculpting and traditional mani-pedis (including a “Business Manicure” for time-strapped male guests). The most noteworthy face and body experiences are those that incorporate Shiseido’s Qi method, which aims to restore energy by stimulating pressure points. Our favorite? The Japanese Jet Lag Therapy—a one-hour back, scalp, and leg massage—to be booked immediately upon landing at Charles de Gaulle.
