More than 1,000 museums across the United States will be offering gratis admission this Saturday, September 23, as part of Smithsonian Magazine’s annual Museum Day Live! event.

During Museum Day Live!, you and a guest can enjoy free access to participating museums and cultural institutions across the country.

The occasion gives you the chance to explore some of U.S. museums that travelers love most without paying admission, including the National WWII museum in New Orleans, where guests are able to experience the history of the war through a collection of artifacts and oral stories. While there, guests can also hop onboard a restored PT boat or take a behind-the-scenes tour of the space with curators.

Other participants include Seattle’s Museum of Flight, where you can admire the country’s largest air and space exhibits, and the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles, where visitors are invited to explore more than 166 genres of music through items such as original costumes and recordings.

To see if a particular museum will be included in the event, you can search by zip code and through the Smithsonian’s map feature.

This year, Museum Day Live! will also feature interactive lesson plans that have been created in partnership with Microsoft. Topics range from the universe and the cosmos to the aging process of buildings.
