World's Strangest National Anthems

Albania

While some countries use their anthems to laud their battle victories a little too aggressively, others—like Albania—seem far too humble. Aleksander Stavre Drenova, who wrote “Himni i Flamurit (Hymn to the Flag)” in 1912, could just have easily titled his composition “The Meek Shall Inherit the Earth;” the song’s final (ostensibly triumphant) final verse reads:

For God himself proclaimed:
The nations of the earth shall wane,
And yet will live, will thrive Albania.
For her our fight won’t be in vain.
