Every June 8, as part of its continuous effort to protect and preserve the ocean, The Ocean Project organizes World Oceans Day, an international holiday promoting sustainable, healthy international waters.

The celebration, held annually since 2002, and officially recognized by the United Nations in 2008, focuses on the conservation of our “one global ocean.” An idea that is represented in this year’s theme: Healthy Oceans, Healthy Planet. Specifically, the theme encourages a worldwide effort to keep the oceans—the one thing that continuously connects our earth—clean and free of plastic pollution.
