Weekender: Taos, New Mexico

Ski In, Ski Out
If you're staying for a week, try an all-inclusive package at one of these mountain inns in the Taos Ski Valley, the area's premier resort.

Inn at Snakedance Rooms at this 60-unit hotel don't have much character; be sure to ask for one with a fireplace (the same rate applies for all). A seven-night Ski Better Week package starts at $1,129 per person. 110 Sutton Place; 800/322-9815 or 505/776-2277; www.innsnakedance.com

Hotel Edelweiss The key to this family-friendly Swiss lodge is its location, between the main lift and beginners' hill. You can ski right to your room. Packages for two adults start at $1,670 per week and include most meals and lessons. 106 Sutton Place; 800/458-8754 or 505/776-2301; www.edelweisslodgeandspa.com

Hotel St. Bernard This Alpine-style lodge looks as if it belongs in Chamonix. Jean Mayer, a native of Nice, sets the European tone with French meals and candlelit dinners. The 28 rooms are 100 percent Southwestern, though, with cedar lamps and hand-painted dressers. A six-day ski package starts at $1,790. 112 Sutton Place; 505/776-2251; www.stbernardtaos.com

Ernie Blake Ski School It's known around the world for its hard-core Ski Weeks—intensive lessons for advanced skiers taught by esteemed instructors like Olympic gold medalist Deb Armstrong. But it also has a Rut Busters weekend camp for intermediates and Yellowbird sessions for beginners. Classes start at $180 per week. 121 Sutton Place; 800/347-7414 or 505/776-2291; www.skitaos.org
