One of France’s most famous sites is planning to open its doors to overnight guests.

The Palace of Versailles is once again in talks to open a luxury hotel, potentially opening three buildings located just outside the Versailles gates for overnight stays. This is the second time Marie Antoinette's former stomping ground has been seriously considered for a lodging conversion, though this time around the estate might find even more appetite for the experience.

Thanks to Airbnb, travelers are becoming accustomed to accessing incredibly creative lodging options—particularly castles.

Versailles is most often thought of as a day trip from Paris, welcoming some three million visitors a year, but a hotel could also transform that experience. Guests will have the chance to live a day, or several days, as historic titans from Napoleon Bonaparte to Marie Antoinette once did. A surge in overnight guests may also encourage more businesses to open in the surrounding area.
