T+L Reports: Orient-Express

Orient-Express is gaining some wings and gathering steam. Driven by reductions in first-class air service and by the demand for shorter, multiple-destination itineraries, the luxury-travel group has just launched its Private Jet Experience. Regular departures to Orient-Express hotels as well as custom-designed journeys are scheduled aboard Airbus 319's and Learjets. Meanwhile, back on land, the company has inaugurated a daily rail route linking Cuzco to Machu Picchu, on the 1920's Hiram Bingham. Named for the American archaeologist who discovered the Incan ruins in 1911, the four-car Pullman-era train takes passengers up the Andean inclines in the height of luxury. The equally opulent Northern Belle begins seven-day grand tours of Great Britain in September. 866/674-3689; www.orient-express.com.
