Former French banker Jean-Luc Boucharenc has opened his two-bedroom Flat in Rio to travelers who want a little privacy in Brazil's sexiest city. Part of a collection of properties, including House in the Forest, the penthouse apartment has a terrace with views of Sugarloaf Mountain and Ipanema Beach, as well as a private rooftop pool. Boucharenc's other rental retreats are equally stylish: House Niemeyer, designed by the country's most famous architect and set in Rio's Jardim Botânico, and the stone-and-wood Colonial House in Paraty, surrounded by lush tropical foliage. Flat in Rio

Located on the 11th floor, the Flat in Rio has a rooftop pool and surrounding patio that overlooks Ipanema Beach and Sugarloaf Mountain. With its Italian-marble floors, the three-bedroom apartment (each with an en-suite bathroom) covers 240 square meters. Decorated with light tones, curved-corner door frames, animal hide rugs, and contemporary-retro furniture, the suite recalls a 1970s resorts. The beach is merely two minutes away—the flat includes a laundry room for post-beach washing. Prices vary by season, and major holidays may require a minimum stay.
