In increasingly flashy Mumbai, gathering for late Sunday morning brunch is the latest weekend ritual—but it’s "brunch" in spirit only. At Souk (Taj Mahal Palace & Tower, Apollo Bunder, Colaba; 91-22/6665-3366, ext. 3272; brunch for two $32), graze on baba ghanoush, pomfret chermoula, and rose-petal ice cream. Grape leaves stuffed with garlic rice and spicy chicken-liver pâté are on the menu at TTaxi (Jony Castle Building, Khatau Rd., off Wodehouse Rd.; 91-22/2218-4904; brunch for two $23), a golden-walled restobar in the central Colaba district. Vetro (The Oberoi, Nariman Point; 91-22/6632-6215; brunch for two $116) does things all’italiana—creamy squash risotto with Umbrian black-truffle oil is a favorite. And at Seijo and the Soul Dish (Waterfield Rd., Bandra West; 91-22/2640-5555; brunch for two $33), admire the Japanese anime–printed walls and feast on tuna canapés, dim sum, and khow suey, a Burmese chicken curry. Eggs Benedict? What’s that?
