Travelers seeking a peaceful retreat in Bali can still find it. One new respite: Como Shambhala Estate at Begawan Giri (62-361/978-888; www.cse.comoshambhala.bz; doubles from $495), the latest spa retreat from hotelier Christina Ong (Parrot Cay, the Metropolitan). Added on to the original Begawan Giri—where each of the five villas has its own infinity pool—are nine treatment rooms, an open-air yoga studio, several lounging pavilions, and two restaurants with exotic menus that can be tailored to any dietary whim (spelt samosa with Bedugul fruit chutney, anyone?). A small cadre of experts and holistic specialists are in residence; they're complemented by a roster of visiting masters of all stripes (Robert Thurman is set to lead a Buddhist seminar here next month). And since this Shangri-la overlooks the Ayung River and mist-shrouded Mount Batur, you can meditate on the surrounding beauty while indulging in a massage on your private terrace. —SARAH MAUD POWELL
