41. NV, WEST PALM BEACH
The third incarnation of NV (the others are in East Hampton and New York's SoHo) hits West Palm Beach this spring. The 5,000-square-foot nightclub will hold 800 people in its bar, lounge space, and dance floor. After New York, why West Palm Beach?Owner Frank Cilione explains, "The city's being totally redeveloped, and it has all the right people. 42-46. BICOASTAL BOÎTES
Johnny Depp, Sean Penn, and musician Mick Hucknall will bring their Paris restaurant-lounge Man Ray to Manhattan in March, taking over the old 147 restaurant space at 147 W. 15th Street in Chelsea. In April, Miami restaurant-bar Bed will be tucking people in at its Big Apple branch in TriBeCa. Following the success of Light in midtown, Chris Barish and Andrew Sasson plan to launch two other locations; they predict that by fall 2001 a new Light will land around Sixth Avenue in the Fifties and another to-be-decided spot. Over in Los Angeles, the Standard hotel will create its own nightclub this year, and New York's Moomba will open a sister club-restaurant in February at 665 N. Robertson Blvd. in West Hollywood.
The team behind Momo's in London is creating a new restaurant-club that should be ready for business in mid-2001. Still unnamed, it's located in a period building on Conduit Street, and will include a restaurant and brasserie.
48. We hear that Flavio Briatore, Formula One team chief and amour of Naomi Campbell, will open a second Billionaire club in St.-Tropez by early summer. 49 Sexy flamenco dancer Joaquin Cortés and actor Christopher Lambert are planning a Gypsy-inspired nightclub in Madrid.
50-53. RANDE GERBER ALERT
The famous barman and supermodel-husband is keeping himself very busy this year: by summer, Chicago will have a Whiskey Blue in one of its new W hotels, and a Whiskey Sky will debut in Scottsdale, Arizona. Come fall, Gerber will launch yet another Whiskey Blue in the new W hotel in South Beach, as well as an updated brothel-like nightclub in New Orleans called St. Pimps.
54. CHINAWHITE, EDINBURGH
An outpost of London's trendy dance club and restaurant Chinawhite is slated to open in Edinburgh in early spring at 12 Shandwick Place. (More Chinawhites may be on the way in the Seminyak area of Bali, Las Vegas, Instanbul, and San Francisco.)
55. HONG KONG
Coming early this year: a new venture from Allan Zeman, one of the pioneers of Hong Kong's bustling after-dark scene and the owner of 12 restaurants and clubs in the Lan Kwai Fong district. The yet-to-be-named nightclub will be located on the basement level of the California Tower Building. Guests can lounge decadently on daybeds with colorful pillows while DJ's and live performers deliver the tunes. 852/2801-6987 for information.
Michael Ma, of Indochine in Singapore, will be taking his popular expat hangoutto Hamburg at the end of the year. Expect Asian food, stone carvings, and acid jazz and funk on the turntable.
