T+L Reports: Kate's Lazy Meadow Motel

Like this article?

You don't have to be a rock star to hang with the band. Just head to New York's Catskill Mountains, where Kate Pierson of the B-52's presides over the kitschiest rest stop in the state. (And that's saying something—Woodstock is just 12 miles away.) What was once a strip of worn 1950's motels on nine wooded acresis now the retro-cool Kate's Lazy Meadow Motel. Designer William Stewart splashed cabin interiors with funky colors—avocado, turquoise—to set off pink Frigidaires and other atomic-age furnishings. Artists Phillip Maberry and Scott Walker, whose house played a role in the band's "Love Shack" video, added wacky details such as colorful ceramic bubbles jutting out of a wall. And Pierson stocked bathrooms with lotions and potions collected from hotels around the world. Kate's Lazy Meadow Motel, 5191 Rte. 28, Mount Tremper, N.Y.; 845/688-7200; www.lazymeadow.com; doubles from $175.
