For a week this February Madrid rules as the contemporary art capital of Europe, during ARCO '05 (February 10-14; www.arcospain.org), the city's mammoth international fair that is a must for collectors and gallery owners. Represented among the 290-plus exhibitors are international heavyweights such as the Marlborough Gallerywith a handful of works by Picasso, Miró, Chillida, and Sauraas well as up-and-coming dealers who display the latest in cutting-edge media. Numerous events, including Madrid Abierto, a series of site-specific outdoor installations throughout the city, run concurrently with the fair.
