The New Pet-Only Airline

Like this article?

Of all the hair-brained travel ventures that come across our desk, this one’s the, uh, well, hairiest. The issue: while most airlines let small pets ride with their owners, larger animals are ignominiously shunted into cargo. Solution: Pet Airways (petairways.com; from $149 one-way), a quasi kennel-in-the-sky that uses turboprop planes to fly your dog or cat (sans owner) in climate-controlled comfort. Attendants provide food, water, and bathroom breaks, and seatback TV’s run endless Snausages commercials. (We made that last part up.) Just drop your pooch off at the airport’s pet lounge, then pick him up when he lands. The airline currently serves minor airports in Washington, D.C.; Chicago; Denver; Los Angeles; and Farmingdale, New York.
