How to make international calls from wherever you are
You're on the street in Venice. You need to call your office back home at a predetermined time, and then confirm hotel reservations in Germany for tomorrow. If you have a telephone charge card, you follow the directions on the back of the card to make the call. But if you don't have a charge card and you want to economize by using a local, prepaid phone card, there are a couple of numbers you need to know. To place an international call, you must first dial the international access number (just as you dial 011 when calling from the United States, for example). There's another number that comes in handy if you want to talk with an English-speaking operator. You could memorize the tables below, but it might be easier to print them out and add them to your traveling phone book.
Here is a list of frequently visited destinations and their international operator codes. To find the code for a country other than those listed, call the nearest consulate for that country.
Costa Rica 116
Hong Kong 013
Russia 8190 (Moscow)
315-0012 (St. Petersburg)
South Korea 0074
