T+L Reports: King George II Palace

Since 1990, Mrs. Tependris, the always fashionable protagonist of L.A.-based artist Konstantin Kakanias's boldly illustrated graphic novels, has been on a mission: to find happiness and purpose without sacrificing her impeccable style. After staying in the Royal Penthouse Suite at Athens's King George II Palace (3 Vas. Georgiou A St.; 30-210/322-2210; www.grecotel.gr ; doubles from $275) last fall, Kakanias decided that there would be no better way to honor the historic 28th Olympiad than by reproducing the images from his 2004 book, Mrs. Tependris… Just Before the Olympic Games in Athens , on the suite's walls, ceiling, and door panels. In a series of murals painted in the tradition of ancient amphorae, the fictional Mrs. T is hard at work throwing, jumping, and carrying the torch, all the while being cheered on by adoring compatriots. The ornate two-bedroom suite holds one more surprise: an amazing view of the Parthenon from the white-marble patio. —ANNA BAKOLA
