The Best Boutiques: Three to get Ready

PURE
Jackson Hole, Wyoming
In a mountain town known for its dry climate, Pure offers an alternative to the Bag Balm school of skin care. This sandalwood scented natural-beauty emporium stocks lotions from Australia's Aesop, Italy's Erbe, and London's Molton Brown to counter the great (but dehydrating) outdoors. The store's eco-conscious owners, Silvia Tobler and Diane Parker, carry mainly plant-based, non-animal-tested products—including their own herb-infused bath line, which they created for Jackson Hole's new Amangani resort. Try the handmade lemongrass soap ($5) or the citrus-and-salt body scrub ($19).
Gaslight Alley, 125 N. Cache St.; 888/734-5055 or 307/734-5055; catalogue available.

BROWNES & CO. APOTHECARY
Miami Beach, Florida
Lincoln Road in Miami Beach is where the buff and the beautiful promenade. Here, anyone with an image problem makes a beeline for Brownes & Co. The South Beach apothecary is a cosmetics crossroads, filled with Florentine potpourri, Japanese makeup brushes, and English shaving creams. Brownes also stocks such esoteric necessities as Shelter, Philosophy's spray-on sunblock; Password nail polish from Body & Soul; and gingham-patterned Acca Kappa toothbrushes. In the loft above Brownes, Some Like It Hot offers Miami's best salon services; Cindy Crawford and Daryl Hannah have stopped by. Book ahead for a super-hydrating facial with cooling cucumber eye mask ($85), a blossom-strewn pedicure with Dead Sea salt scrub ($29), or a trim with hair guru Nikki Mallon.
841 Lincoln Rd.; 305/532-8703; catalogue available.

SCARLETT
New Hope, Pennsylvania
In a Bucks County antiques mecca, cosmetics diva Scarlett Messina's funky little shop—purple walls, Hello Kitty clock—has won over Madonna, Christina Ricci, and the girls on Friends because it carries some of the world's hottest products. Searched everywhere for Vain's 2nd Day Hair shampoo (for that just-unwashed look)? It's here, along with Fudge, Australia's cult-inspiring hair-care line; Japan's Komenuka Bijin cream with rice bran; and zesty Botot toothpaste from France. No makeup connoisseur can resist Scarlett's own Capri Casino collection. Blushes and shadows—Sloe Gin Fizz is this season's top seller—come in poker-chip pots; lipstick tubes look like stacks of red dice. The V.I.P. shade was created especially for high roller Pamela Anderson Lee. The store recently added a clothing boutique next door, stocked with Daryl K and Betsey Johnson.
129 S. Main St.; 215/862-9408; catalogue available
