In Hawaii, natch.
If you’re going to learn to surf, you may as well learn from the best. Now, the St. Regis Princeville Resort in Kauai, Hawaii, is giving wannabe surfers a chance to learn to hang ten from wave-riding legend Bill Hamilton, named one of "25 Surfers whose Surfing Changed the Sport” by Surfer Magazine.
As part of a new package at the luxury resort, the noted surfer (and father of Laird Hamilton, who is a surfing icon in his own right) will take the entire family to Kauai’s famed beaches for a two-hour private surfing lesson. Although two hours may not be enough time to learn Hamilton’s signature swell-riding moves, it should give everyone a story to tell while hanging around the St. Regis’s 5,000-square-foot infinity pool, which sits right on the ocean overlooking the island’s beautiful Hanalei Bay.
After your morning at the beach, head back to the hotel to practice your surf lingo over a poolside lunch at the Nalu Kai Restaurant. Guests will then follow Hamilton to the Hanalei workshop where he makes the world-famous surfboards that are shipped across the world to fashionable wave riders from Tahiti to Brazil. Hamilton will work with guests to design and create their very own custom surfboard, which will be shipped to their doorstep as a memento of the trip.
The package is available through December. More information here.
