You may be glad that a recent "technology challenge" caused nearly 450 flights to be delayed. Southwest Airlines experienced a techcnical glitch that impacted all of its online platforms last weekend, and it's apologizing by dropping ticket prices to as low as $49.

Take advantage of the flash sale, which runs through October 15, to book low-low fares for U.S. flights from December 2 to December 16, and January 5 through February 10. For less than $50, you can fly from Washington, D.C. to Cleveland, Chicago to Memphis, Las Vegas to Los Angeles, and more. You can't fly on Friday or Saturday, but this may be as good an excuse as any to take a spontaneous trip this winter.

Good job, Southwest customer service. Apology accepted.
