On a trip from Singapore to Shanghai last week, a Singapore Airlines Airbus A330 lost power in both of its engines for approximately 30 minutes. In that time, the plane had dipped about 13,000 feet from its planned flying path. The plane ultimately returned to cruising altitude and arrived in Shanghai. Nobody was harmed.
This power outage sounds mighty similar to Boeing’s generator “bug” from earlier this month, but the airline attributed the situation to “bad weather” about 3.5 hours into the flight. Rolls Royce—the engine manufacturer—is currently investigating the situation with Airbus.
