Yachting in the Greek Isles

Return to main article

If you’re considering sailing away, keep in mind: the Peloponnesian cruising season lasts from March to October, and it’s best to book your boat six months to a year ahead.

The daily cost of a crewed charter can range from $2,000 to $120,000, depending on the boat’s size and the number of passengers; most yachts comfortably host six to fourteen passengers, at an average price of about $5,000 a day. In the charter fee, some companies include fuel and half-board (breakfast and lunch on ship, dinner on shore). Other companies levy additional charges for fuel consumption ($50 to $600 per hour depending on the type of boat, at an average of four hours a day) and for meals on board (half-board can cost $50 to $100 a person per day; full board is $75 to $150).

Generally not included in the charter price are alcoholic beverages, incidentals such as use of the ship’s satellite phone, and crew tips (guests usually give the captain 10 percent to 15 percent of the cost of the charter to distribute to the entire crew).

Companies that charter yachts offering itineraries around the Peloponnese include Olympic Yacht Charters, www.olympicyachtcharters.com; Afroudakis Yachts, www.afroudakisusa.com; Alpha Yachting, www.alphayachting.com; and Valef Yachts, www.valefyachts.com.
