Set amid Valpolicella vineyards outside Romeo and Juliet's hometown, the Byblos Art Hotel Villa Amistà appears ripe for an old-world romance. But if the star crossed lovers stepped through the arched doorway, they would be in for a surprise. Proprieter Dino Facchini (he also owns the fashion line Byblos) has brought the estate into the 21st century: the frescoed ballroom is sexed up with photograpgs of red-haired nudes by Vanessa Beecroft, and the 60 rooms have laugh-out-loud details like harlequin patterns, fridges with painted faces, and asymmetrical mirrors. But the hotel is more than a house of fun. Couples can wind down in the Roman-style pool, take steam in the spa, or head to the restaurant for sea bass sweetened with rose petals. Even the Montagues and Capulets would have agreed that this place is a find.
