Chope's (505-233-3420): "It's just this little house, a very cozy place with the hottest food in the world. They only serve beer by the quart, and for a good reason. You take a bite of food, then a drink of beer, and it has to be beer. Water won't douse the fire."
New Mexico State University Golf Course (505-646-3219): "The best in the city—long and demanding. It's where I beat my dad for the first time, when I was in college. I had sixteen fours, a three and a two."
Nopalito's (505-522-0440): "The green chili salsa—it's actually more like a stew—is the best ever. I eat it by the gallon."
Picacho Hills Country Club (private; 505-646-3219): "Great views of the city at night. The club is a terrific place to drink a few beers and hang out. Way back when, I used to spend a lot of evenings there."

Nutty's Pub (605-362-0947): "A place to throw peanut shells on the floor. I'd hit Nutty's on Sunday nights because I had Mondays off at the club."

Westward Ho Country Club (private; 605-336-3737): "A helluva test. The greens are always in spectacular shape, rolling fast and true, and the rough is always high."

Metropolitan Grill (206-624-3287): "One of the best steak houses in the world. The ambiance is awesome, and the service and food are great, too. At the NEC Invitational, the week after the PGA, I hosted a birthday party for myself at the Metropolitan, with a couple dozen guests, and they took great care of us."
West Seattle Golf Course (206-935-5187): "A course with a great back nine. There are some cool views of downtown Seattle, too."

El Paso, TEXAS

Aceitunas (915-581-3371): "There's no sawdust on the floor, but it's still kind of a dive. Just a low-key, perfect place to hang out. All spring and summer, Tuesday night is mariachi night in the beer garden. Say hi to Alex the bartender for me."
Cafe Central (915-545-2233): "The bar there is real cozy and small, and everything on the menu is terrific."
Campestre Juarez Country Club (011-52-656-617-3439): "It's just over the line in Juarez—an old-school place: walking only, caddies required. The course is always in wonderful shape, with Bermuda grass and big old trees. You'll do well to shoot your handicap at Campestre."
El Paso Country Club (private; 915-584-1111): "Of course it's my favorite. Pigeons are always welcome."
Jaxon's (915-544-1188): "Home of ridiculously good enchiladas."
Juarez, Mexico: "Hop a trolley in downtown El Paso and it'll take you to Juarez. It's only about a twenty-minute ride. The central marketplace is unbelievable. You can buy anything at a bargain price."
Painted Dunes Golf Course (915-821-2122): "They used to hold local qualifying for Q-school at Painted Dunes, so you know the place is legit. It's definitely one of the best public courses in Texas, tough but fair. There are lots of nice views of town, too."
The State Line Bar-B-Q (915-581-3371): "The best barbecue in town. The State Line is the kind of place that gives you a whole loaf of bread, not just a couple of slices. You get quick service and large portions—it's basically all you can eat for under $20."
