For many, the words gay resort equal circuit party (or, worse, clothing-optional pool). But at Tucson's Coyote Moon Health Resort & Spa (7501 N. Wade Rd.; 877/784-7430; www.coyotemoonresort.com; seven-day packages from $3,105, all-inclusive), the focus is more on inner calm than all-night raves. Owner and former nurse Joe Studer tapped into his medical background to create a 30-acre, eco-friendly destination spa out of an 1850's stagecoach stop in the Tucson Mountains. His wellness mission is evident in the treatment menurelaxing therapies such as wraps with mimosa bark and aloe; body scrubs with lemongrass, ground bamboo, and carrot oilclasses on yoga, Pilates, and even Chinese acupuncture and hypnosis sessions. Miraval veteran Kelly Kimpton heads the kitchen, which uses locally grown organic produce for its healthful cuisine. So are there no raucous disco-fueled pool parties? "Most guests are asleep by nine," Studer admits.
