T+L Reports: Pura Satisfaction

Like this article?

Looking for that perfect souvenir from your trip to Chile?Santiago's Pura boutique (170 La Pastora; 56-2/333-3144) is introducing the work of nearly 100 of the country's best artesanos to travelers and Chileans alike. Handicrafts at Pura are anything but run-of-the-mill tourist tchotchkes. Instead, you'll go home with smart fringed ponchos by up-and-coming designer Francisca Cummins, or a modern version of pantuflas, those colorful, knit slipper-socks, from Chiloé (made with vegetable dyes). Fragrances distilled from locally grown limes are sold along with carved makoi-wood figurines from Easter Island and rugs woven from sheep's wool sheared on the Chilean coast. The items are artfully displayed in a pure white space in the neighborhood of Las Condes, conveniently located 1 1/2 blocks from the Ritz-Carlton.
