Where to Stay, Eat and Go

Return to main article

Pondicherry's climate is hot and humid most of the year. But there's a season of lighter rain—with a cooling effect—from July to September. There are no nonstop flights from the United States to Chennai Airport, which is 85 miles from Pondicherry, but direct European routes and domestic flights connect in Mumbai and New Delhi. When traveling from Chennai to Pondy, opt for taxi or bus (the roads are bumpy, but trains are unpredictable). There is a particularly scenic East Coast Road bus trip.
