Star Wars fans no longer have to head to Tatooine for a drink. A new Star Wars–themed bar has just opened in the Canadian capital's suburb of Orleans.
“The Cantina is actually where Luke Skywalker and Ben Kenobi first meet Han Solo and it’s a bar and it’s probably one of the best scenes in the world,” said Jeff St.Pierre, co-owner of The Cantina, speaking to CTV.
If St. Pierre sounds like he knows his Star Wars arcana, he does. He and his partner in The Cantina also own the Star Wars-themed game shop next door, callaed the Kessel Run. (If you can name that reference in less than 12 parsecs, you deserve a Star Wars merit badge.)
As Star Wars mania heats up (again) as fans await the December release of The Force Awakens, St. Pierre and his partner decided the time was right to open a Star Wars-themed bar.
The Cantina opened in Ottawa’s Orléans neighborhood last week. The walls are painted brown to reflect the Tatooine desert landscape and decorated with photos of behind-the-scenes Star Wars action and posters from the franchise’s ever-growing history.
Since every theme bar needs a signature drink, The Cantina has opted for a cocktail straight out of the Mos Eisely cantina—the Bantha Milk, a blue-colored liquid procured by those who dare to milk a bantha,
While Obi-Wan Kenobi called the real Star Wars cantina “a wretched hive of scum and villainy,” Ottawa’s version looks like a great place to have a few drinks.
While Ottawa isn’t in a galaxy far, far away, if you want something a little closer to home, on December 16th, Chicago’s The Whistler will become the Mos Eisley Cantina in anticipation of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, complete with house band Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes” and a galactic cocktail menu.
