Inn of the Month: Oregon's Weasku Inn

Like this article?

You can't miss the place—just look for the jumping-trout neon sign out front. The Weasku Inn has been asking in fishermen and others in search of woodland anonymity since 1924. Herbert Hoover cast his line here, at the Weasku's pot-o'-gold fishing hole on the Rogue River, as did Walt Disney and Bing Crosby. Clark Gable and Carole Lombard stayed in room No. 4 of the five-room lodge (the innkeeper's rolltop in the back office is shown here). Four riverfront cabins are brand-new and a 1950's A-frame was recently refurbished, but the look throughout is Pacific Northwest woodsy—think Martha Stewart meets Pendleton wool. Breakfast is muffins and just-baked croissants. Most guests head into Grants Pass for lunch and dinner—unless they've had a good catch. In that case, the folks at the inn will happily fire up the grill on the back porch.

WEASKU INN, 5560 Rogue River Hwy., Grants Pass, Oreg.; 800/493-2758 or 541/471-8000; www.weasku.com ; doubles from $85.
