T+L Reports: Icebar Milano

Like this article?

Looking for a place to chill—literally?Head to Absolut Icebar Milano (12 Piazza Gerusalemme; 39-02/8907-8513; www.townhouse.it; by appointment on weekends), in the Corso Sempione neighborhood, where the temperature is always a brisk 23 degrees. Dreamed up by Sweden's Icehotel, Milan's Town House hotels, and Absolut, the bar's walls, tables, and chandelier are carved from 100 tons of Swedish river ice. Inside, fur-swathed bartenders mix vodka cocktails in frozen tumblers, while daring patrons shiver to the sounds of Björk as they recline on icy sofas. But all this cool comes with a hitch: the fashion-conscious guests are required to cover up with silver thermal capes (even designer Stefano Gabbana donned one when he dropped by recently), and no one is allowed to spend more than 30 minutes in the popular, frosty boîte. The bar's success has spawned a handful of equally arctic hangouts, which will be introduced in Europe and the United States.
