T+L Reports: Mexican Art
Published: April 2009
From the paintings of Diego Rivera to the acting of Gael García Bernal, the rich artistic heritage of Mexico has made an indelible mark on modern global culture. This month's MéxicoNow (www.mexiconowfestival.org) presents pieces by nearly 100 Mexican architects, writers, and visual and performance artists in New York City. Among the highlights: stage director Martín Acosta's presentation of the play Faust/How I Rose, a new take on deals made with the devil, at Brooklyn Academy of Music; the Mazatlán modern dance troupe Delfos Danza Contemporánea's Brief Moments, at the Joyce Theater; and, at Symphony Space, the film series "Mother Saints and Holy Whores."
