North America's Best Whale-Watching Spots
Much like a flexing arm reaching into the Atlantic, Cape Cod points at Stellwagen Bank, an underwater plateau teeming with eels and plankton in the Gulf of Maine. After a long winter spent nursing their young in the tropics, underweight whales return here to feed. In fact, so many humpback whales gather in this area that they were named after the region—Megaptera novaeangliae means “big-winged New Englander.”
Season: April to October.
Go Whale Watching: The Dolphin Fleet is one of the world’s most respected whale-watch operations.
